Terms of Service
The short version
- Lua helps you track your body. It is not a doctor and not birth control.
- Lua cannot prevent pregnancy and its predictions are estimates, not facts.
- Reminders can fail. Never rely on Lua alone for anything that matters medically.
- Your health logs live on your phone, so back up your phone. We have no copy to restore.
- Lua is free to download. Lua+ is optional, billed by Apple as a monthly or yearly subscription.
- You need to be at least 16 to use Lua.
This summary is here to help you. The sections below are the full terms and are what legally applies.
1. Who you are agreeing with
These terms are an agreement between you and Meet Lua LLC, a limited liability company registered in Delaware, United States ("Lua", "we", "us"). They cover the Lua mobile app and the meetlua.com website.
Meet Lua LLC
131 Continental Dr, Suite 305
Newark, Delaware 19713

By installing or using Lua, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the app.
2. Lua is not medical advice and is not contraception
This is the most important section in this document, so it is short and blunt.
- Lua is not a contraceptive. It does not prevent pregnancy and it has no contraceptive effect of any kind. It is not approved, cleared, or certified by any regulator as a method of birth control or as a medical device.
- Lua does not give medical advice and does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition. It is an informational and record-keeping tool.
- Predictions are estimates. Period forecasts, cycle phases, fertile windows, ovulation timing, and pregnancy weeks are calculated from what you enter. Bodies vary, cycles change, and the estimates can be wrong. Fertile-window information must not be used as a way to avoid pregnancy.
- Reminders can fail. A reminder may not arrive if your phone is off, out of battery, in Do Not Disturb, if notifications are disabled or the app is force-quit or restricted by the operating system, if you change time zone, or if the app crashes. Do not depend on Lua alone to take your pill or replace your patch, ring, injection, IUD, or implant on time. Follow your prescriber's instructions and your medication's leaflet.
- Always talk to a professional. For anything concerning your health, contraception, fertility, or pregnancy, consult a qualified healthcare provider. Never delay or disregard professional advice because of something you saw in Lua. If you think you have a medical emergency, contact your local emergency services immediately.
3. Who can use Lua
You must be at least 16 years old to use Lua. By using it, you confirm that you are 16 or older and that you are able to enter into this agreement. You also agree to use Lua only for lawful, personal, non-commercial purposes.
4. Your data is on your phone, which cuts both ways
Lua stores everything you log on your own device and sends it nowhere. We describe this fully in our Privacy Policy. The trade-off is important and you should understand it before you rely on the app:
- We keep no copy of your data. If you lose your phone, wipe it, delete the app, or use Lua's delete function, your data is gone permanently and we cannot restore it. No exceptions, because there is nothing for us to restore from.
- Keeping a backup is your responsibility. Backing up your phone through Apple or Google is the practical way to do it.
- Keeping your device secure is your responsibility. We strongly recommend a device passcode and turning on Lua's optional Face ID lock.
- Data may not carry over between devices, platforms, or after a reinstall, since there is no cloud sync.
5. Your permission to use the app
We give you a personal, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use Lua on any Apple-branded products you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial use, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. These terms do not set usage rules that conflict with those Terms. Family Sharing or volume purchasing may let other Apple accounts associated with the purchaser access Lua, where Apple and the product allow it. We keep all rights we do not explicitly give you here.
You agree not to:
- copy, sell, rent, sublicense, or redistribute the app;
- reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code, except to the limited extent the law says you may;
- remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices;
- use the app to break the law, harass anyone, or infringe someone else's rights;
- deliberately interfere with the app's operation or security.
6. Our intellectual property
Lua, including its software, design, illustrations, mascot, text, and the Lua name and logo, belongs to Meet Lua LLC and is protected by intellectual property law. These terms do not transfer any of it to you.
What you write in the app is yours. We claim no ownership over your entries, and since they never leave your device, we could not use them even if we wanted to.
7. Pre-release builds
From time to time we may offer TestFlight or other pre-release builds. Those builds may contain bugs, behave unexpectedly, calculate things incorrectly, lose data, or stop working. They can expire, and a test period can end or change without notice.
Please do not rely on a pre-release build for anything you cannot afford to get wrong, and please do report problems to us.
8. Lua+ subscriptions
Lua is free to download. Tracking your cycle, contraception, sex life, and pregnancy on your device is included. Lua+ is optional. It unlocks reminders for every contraceptive method Lua supports, plus full cycle stats and insights.
Lua+ is sold through Apple. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. We do not process your payments and never see your card details. The title, length, and price shown in the app and in the App Store before you confirm are the ones that apply to you. Prices vary by country and include applicable taxes.
Lua+ is currently offered as:
-
Lua+ Monthly — an auto-renewable subscription
lasting one month (product ID
lua_monthly). Typical US price: US$7.99 per month. -
Lua+ Yearly — an auto-renewable subscription
lasting one year (product ID
lua_yearly). Typical US price: US$49.99 per year. New subscribers may be offered a 7-day free trial where Apple makes that offer available.
For auto-renewable subscriptions, the following applies:
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase.
- The subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Your Apple Account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period, at the then-current subscription price.
- You can manage the subscription and turn off auto-renewal in your Apple Account settings after purchase (on iPhone: Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions). You can also restore purchases in Lua. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Any unused portion of a free trial, if offered, is forfeited when you purchase a subscription to that service, where applicable. A trial converts to a paid subscription unless you cancel before the trial ends.
- If you upgrade or change plans inside the same subscription group, Apple's rules for upgrades, downgrades, and cross-grades apply. Turning off auto-renewal stops the next renewal; the current paid period usually continues until it ends.
Refunds are handled by Apple under its refund policy. We generally cannot issue refunds for App Store purchases ourselves. If Apple changes a subscription price, Apple will handle notice and any consent your storefront requires; otherwise auto-renewal may be turned off. If you have a legal right to withdraw from a purchase, such as the EU or UK cooling-off period for consumers, that right is unaffected by this section.
These terms and our Privacy Policy apply to Lua+. Both are also linked from the purchase screen in the app.
9. Third-party services
Lua works alongside services that are not ours. When you use those services with Lua, you must also comply with their terms. That includes, as applicable, the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, your wireless data agreement, Apple Health, TestFlight, RevenueCat (which confirms whether Lua+ is active), and UserJot, which powers our community page.
We are not responsible for those services. Connecting Apple Health is always your choice.
10. Community and feedback
If you post on our community page, be decent to other people. We may remove content or block access where someone is abusive, posts unlawful or spam content, or shares another person's private information.
If you send us ideas or feedback, you allow us to use them to improve Lua without owing you payment or credit. You keep the right to use your own ideas however you like. Please do not send us confidential information or anything you are not free to share.
11. The app is provided "as is"
We build Lua carefully, but we provide it as it is, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement.
We do not promise that Lua will be uninterrupted or error-free, that its predictions or reminders will be accurate or timely, that it will work on every device or operating system version, or that your data will never be lost.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Meet Lua LLC and the people who work with it will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or loss of goodwill, arising from your use of Lua.
This specifically includes, without limitation, any claim arising from an unintended pregnancy, a missed or mistimed contraceptive dose, a missed or inaccurate reminder, an inaccurate prediction or insight, a health decision you made using the app, or the loss or deletion of your data.
Our total liability for any claim relating to Lua is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for Lua in the twelve months before the claim, or fifty US dollars.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, including for death, personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or fraudulent misrepresentation. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and in those places our liability is limited only to the extent permitted.
13. Changes and ending this agreement
We may update Lua, change or discontinue features, or update these terms. When we make a material change to these terms, we will update the date at the top and, where the change matters, tell you in the app. Continuing to use Lua after a change means you accept the updated terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the app.
You can end this agreement at any time by deleting Lua from your device. Ending this agreement does not cancel an Apple subscription; you still need to turn off auto-renewal in your Apple Account settings. We may suspend or end your right to use Lua if you materially breach these terms. Sections 4, 6, 8, 11, 12, 14, and 15 continue to apply afterwards.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and the state and federal courts located in Delaware have jurisdiction over disputes.
If you are a consumer, this does not take away rights you have under the mandatory consumer protection law of the country where you live, and it does not prevent you from bringing a claim in your local courts where the law gives you that right.
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
15. Terms required by Apple
Because Lua is distributed through the App Store, the following applies. These acknowledgements are required by Apple's minimum terms for a custom EULA.
- Who the contract is with. These terms are an agreement between you and Meet Lua LLC only, not with Apple Inc. Meet Lua LLC, not Apple, is solely responsible for the Lua app and its content. The licence in section 5 does not set usage rules that conflict with the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
- Scope of licence. The licence in section 5 is limited to a non-transferable licence to use Lua on Apple-branded products you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, except that Lua may be accessed and used by other accounts associated with the purchaser via Family Sharing or volume purchasing.
- Maintenance and support. Meet Lua LLC is solely responsible for providing any maintenance and support for Lua, as described in these terms or as required by law. You and we acknowledge that Apple has no obligation to furnish any maintenance or support for Lua. For support, use the contact details in section 16.
- Warranty. Meet Lua LLC is solely responsible for any product warranties, whether express or implied by law, to the extent not effectively disclaimed. If Lua fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price for the licensed application to you. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to Lua, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, or expenses attributable to any failure to conform to any warranty are Meet Lua LLC's sole responsibility.
- Product claims. You and we acknowledge that Meet Lua LLC, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims by you or any third party relating to Lua or your possession and use of it, including (i) product liability claims; (ii) any claim that Lua fails to conform to any applicable legal or regulatory requirement; and (iii) claims arising under consumer protection, privacy, or similar legislation, including in connection with HealthKit. These terms do not limit our liability to you beyond what applicable law permits.
- Intellectual property. In the event of any third-party claim that Lua, or your possession and use of Lua, infringes that third party's intellectual property rights, Meet Lua LLC, not Apple, will be solely responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement, and discharge of that claim.
- Legal compliance. You represent and warrant that (i) you are not located in a country that is subject to a US Government embargo, or that has been designated by the US Government as a "terrorist supporting" country; and (ii) you are not listed on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Developer contact. Questions, complaints, or claims about Lua should be directed to Meet Lua LLC using the name, address, telephone number, and email in section 16.
- Third-party terms. You must comply with applicable third-party terms of agreement when using Lua, as described in section 9, including your wireless data agreement if you use Lua over a mobile network.
- Third-party beneficiary. You and we acknowledge and agree that Apple, and Apple's subsidiaries, are third-party beneficiaries of these terms, and that upon your acceptance of these terms Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.
